Turn a doc into a SKILL.md
Paste a how-to doc, a checklist, or a prompt you keep reusing. You get a SKILL.md with valid name and description frontmatter, ready for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or OpenCode. It's free, and the text never leaves your browser.
Your doc in, a SKILL.md out
Markdown, Google Docs, Notion, or plain text. Bullets like • and ・ become Markdown lists.
Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, up to 64 characters. It is also the folder's name.
The AI reads only this line to decide whether to open the skill. Say what it does and when to use it. Up to 1,024 characters.
JavaScript is off, so here is the same job by hand:
- Make a folder named in lowercase with hyphens, such as
refund-emails. - In it, make a file named
SKILL.md. - Start the file with three hyphens, a line
name: refund-emails, a linedescription: "What it does. Use when …", and three hyphens again. - Paste your doc under that block.
Next: give it to your team
A SKILL.md on your laptop helps one person. AI Skill Pod puts it in one pod your whole team reaches from Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode through one MCP link, contractors on their own accounts included. Invite them with one link; personal emails work.
What the converter writes
A skill is a folder with one required file, SKILL.md. The file starts with a short block of YAML (the frontmatter) and continues with your instructions in Markdown. The open Agent Skills format needs two fields in that block:
name: 1 to 64 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, not starting or ending with a hyphen and with no two hyphens in a row. It must match the folder's name.description: 1 to 1,024 characters on what the skill does and when to use it.
The converter builds the name from your doc's first heading, drafts a description from the first sentence, cleans the bullets, and adds a heading if the doc has none. Edit either field; the file updates as you type. Anthropic's own rules add two more: a name can't contain "anthropic" or "claude", and neither field may hold XML tags. The converter checks both.
Where to put the file
- Claude (web and desktop): go to Customize > Skills, click +, then Create skill > Upload a skill, and pick the .zip. It holds the folder with SKILL.md inside, the shape Claude asks for. Code execution must be on.
- Claude Code: unzip into
~/.claude/skills/for yourself, or.claude/skills/in a repo for everyone who clones it. - Codex, Cursor, OpenCode: each reads skill folders from its own place; the sync guide lists them.
Each copy you place by hand is a copy someone has to update by hand. That's the job AI Skill Pod takes over.
Write a description the AI will act on
The AI sees only the name and description of every skill until one fits the request, so the description decides whether your skill is ever opened. Three habits help:
- Start with what it does: "Drafts refund replies in our support tone."
- Then say when: "Use when a customer asks for a refund, a return, or a chargeback."
- Name the words people type: product names, file types, the team's own terms.
